How to cut carbon steel smoothly and perfectly

In the process technology of laser cutting machine, the cross section of carbon steel can be cut very smoothly to achieve a "mirror" effect, commonly known as "bright surface cutting". Bright surface cutting is mainly used for medium thickness carbon steel. Bright surface cutting cannot be achieved if the steel plate is too thin or too thick.

How to perform bright cutting?

First, control the cutting speed. If the cutting speed is too fast, the material will not be burned completely and the workpiece cannot be cut through. If the cutting speed is too slow, the material will be burned excessively, causing the workpiece to melt and deform. On the premise of ensuring that the workpiece is cut, the cutting speed should be increased as much as possible.

Second, adjust the nozzle height. The height of the nozzle will affect the beam quality, oxygen purity and gas flow direction. When the nozzle is lower, the beam quality is better. The higher the oxygen purity, the smaller the gas flow direction. Therefore, the height should be as low as possible when cutting bright surfaces.

Third, adjust the cutting air pressure. During oxygen cutting of carbon steel, the combustion of the material will release a large amount of heat, so the oxygen pressure should not be too high. Generally speaking, the lower the air pressure within the cutting range, the brighter the cut section will be. However, in order to ensure cutting stability, a certain proportion of the cutting air pressure is usually increased.

Fourth, adjust the cutting power. For plates of different thicknesses, the greater the thickness, the higher the power required.

Fifth, adjust the cutting focus size. The beam ejected from the nozzle of the fiber laser has a certain diameter. When cutting bright surfaces, a smaller nozzle is usually used. If the focus is too large, the nozzle will become hot, affecting the cutting quality and stability. In severe cases, it may even directly cause damage to the nozzle. Therefore, it is necessary to find out the maximum focus value that the nozzle size can bear, and then adjust it.

Sixth, choose the nozzle size. Generally, the smaller the nozzle, the brighter the cut section and the better the effect.

The above are the 6 laser technology techniques for bright surface cutting introduced by TWCNC. Of course, to achieve better results, operators need to practice and continuously improve the cutting process.
